split decision.

I have talked about this once before. I own a steamer and once upon a time I thought it was a useless thing to have. Then I used it. Now I have a love hate relationship with it.
Evidence suggests that steam cleaners are all the rage right now. The problem is they actually work. Well at least the one I have works. It's a pain to wield but the job it does is amazing. The lazy bones in me hates lugging the thing out to do my cleaning.
I have decided I want an upgrade. I am torn between the shark  and the bissell. Currently I have a hand vac that is great on the wood and tile surfaces. My entire first floor is wood and tile and I often vacuum the entire surface in about 20 minutes (with stops to deal with kiddies). Really my vacuum set is the best ever. It's a simplicity upright and a separate canister for smaller jobs.  My mother in law bought it for us for a housewarming gift and I could not be happier with it.
The steam and sweep would potential cut the need for me to break out my vacuum. But because I have such a nice vacuum and it's way easier than sweeping for the big jobs I could get away with the smaller and more affordable steamer.
Paul and I are done with Christmas shopping for the year and these items were not on my wish list. I am hopeful that maybe in the spring I can acquire one.

  1. i have the shark pocket mop. i love it bc you can use both sides of the mop in one use (you can flip it after the 1st side is dirty). it's great bc it extends the surface area you can clean in one use. it comes with a square head which i use for the kitchen/laundry room and a triangle head which i use for bathrooms. if you're looking for one that vacuums though, i'm not sure which is better. i tend to go by online ratings.

  2. i do have a question about your vacuum. what model do you have? has it lost suction over time? does it use bags? we are in desperate need of a new one and i always buy cheap ones (around $50) only to have to get a new one every other year or so. we only have 2 kids, but HEAVY traffic with the dog. have you noticed a big difference between the simplicity and other brands?

  3. I have the Freedom and it uses the hepa filtration bags. The bags are like fabric which holds in all of the dust particles it sucks up.
It so far has not lost suction and I am impressed every time I use it (I got it in June). You have to go to an actual vacuum store (not sold in retail stores), and it's really expensive. But the sport hand vac came with the upright as part of a package deal.
I only had a cheap dirt devil bagless before this and that thing was junk. It barely picked anything up.

  4. I think mine is the f3500. She didn't get me the one rated for hardfloors because I use the sport to do that. And It's a one speed rather than two speed. I think the higher speeds help with pets and I don't have any pets.
